Changing the narrative

According to the #UNFCC, approximately 70,000 participants are expected to attend #COP28, in Dubai. Being one of these participants, I wonder if we are doing enough to drive a meaningful global shift. I’m not pessimistic but I do believe that a change is needed and primarily in communicating climate challenges to everyone everywhere. We still tackle climate action as an additionality not a necessity.

It’s all about communication. Factually, both the climate change problems and – to great extent – the solutions are established and well backed by science, but we still drown in controversies and debates. In my humble opinion, the climate action movement at large crashes at the walls of the infinite “profitable” growth that dominates the narrative of the corporations and governments alike.

So, if we need a global adoption of climate action and an accelerated transition, I believe we need to start by changing our means of communications. Can we let go of terminologies that have been used and abused and require essays to describe and explain, such as #Sustainability, #decarbonization, #degrowth, #ESG, Green and many other terms?

People need to feel safe and hopeful about their future. People need stable unpolarized economies and societies. We need to communicate through these lenses that responsible climate actions are the best to realize people needs.

A global shift in narrative and mindset is what we need. Although I don’t have a complete answer but believe in the journey that would reveal it.

Let’s change the narrative!
